Where's the black fantasy romance?

Join me on my mission to share diverse stories and bring more diverse characters to the fantasy romance genre!

I'm a long time fantasy romance lover - why? Someone handed me Hush, Hush ages ago and I was hooked! Ever since, my shelves have been filled with all kinds of science-fiction & fantasy romance. Vampires, elves, fae, shifters, immortals, you name it, I read it.

But I noticed early on that my favorite heroines never looked like me. Is that a devastating mental blow that keeps me from reading my favorite genre? Maybe not. Does it leave young women of color questioning their own love-ability and wishing for more? Absolutely!

In a world that is constantly telling women of color they are less than, the one thing I would hope we could do is dive into a different world where a woman like us is swept off her feet and loved - unconditionally, unabashedly, fiercely...obsessively (if you're into that sort of thing).

I'm tired of reimagining every story to see myself in every heroine. Sometimes I just want to pick up a book and not wonder, "does this man date black women?" (haha!). Don't get me wrong, there are some amazing books out there written by very talented authors, but finding those books can be difficult. Resources don't exactly make them easy to find.

So, what's my point...

I want more, damnit! More magical men fawning over a dark-skinned goddess, more alphas boldly claiming their desire for the creole witch, more devious fae seducing bronzed heroines! Give it to me; give it all to me!

This is where I bring that goal to life. I spend my time scouring the internet and book stores so you don't have to. And more importantly, I'm publishing more stories that speak to readers like you so that some day we won't have to have some special list or black-love plug. They'll just be there - ready, and waiting, and accessible. Lofty goals for a little blog, I know.

Okay, what now?

So here I am, sourcing as many stories as I can find, to get them to the readers that crave them and penning my own works to fill the void in my bitter heart!

I'll be releasing a monthly newsletter featuring diverse books filled with magic, love, and lust and posting updates about my novels from time-to-time. You can find my current reads and more niche reading lists here and on instagram.

Yes! We are here and deserve to see ourselves in life situations not always in politically traumatic struggles only. I have been working on my own stories as well because I love magick, witches, and infuse African spirituality in my practice and writing. Can't wait to add many of these to my TBR as I'm always bookmarking when I come across random ads with black heroines in fantasy. Now you've provided a full and growing list- thank you!!!

Oh, my word! This post warms my heart, makes me smile and gives me ALL the feels. I'm so happy I found you on Insta. I messaged Tierra Cox the other day because she mentions the same sentiments on her website. I told her that after suspending my blackness for so long as I read sexy, fantasy/paranormal romance, I decided to write instead of complain. While there are so many Black authors adding to the genre it's lovely to see people who are into my sub-genre of choice. Thank you for your time, effort and desire to see Black women in love. I can't wait to read your work and as I edit my own manuscript, it's good to know…
